Making Fund Raising a Creative Process

The publication of a Coffee Table book on the colourful and meaningful life experiences of Venerable Ho Yuen Hoe surfaced in the light of a strong desire to move into an innovative, creative and more meaningful fund raising initiative that also satisfied a personal and national need – documentation for posterity. We believe this book will contribute greatly to Singapore’s literary heritage, and pay tribute to a great lady who served the elderly with passion and displayed true grit.

The book - “A Life for Others” – written by Dr Uma Rajan, our Executive Director. has much to say to the new millennium generation. Written in English with summarized Chinese version and many interesting pictorial illustrations it should appeal to a wide audience irrespective of age.

“A Life for Others” traces the life and contributions of Venerable Ho Yuen Hoe, who represented different facets of a woman’s life – a filial daughter, a hardworking hairdresser, a loving mother, an entrepreneur, a nun, a carer of the elderly and a community leader. Her remarkable story also affords a peek into the traditional trades that sustained the livelihood of our forefathers, and the Samsui women who occupy a unique place in our nation building. A successful female entrepreneur with foresight and vision, Ven Ho was a woman ahead of her time. She has helped to pave the way for women of the 21st century to step forward to make their mark in the society and the world.

President S R Nathan autographed twenty leather bound copies for donations of $2,000 and all have been taken up. Leather bound copies of the book are offered to those donating $300/- and above and the limp bound copies for $80/- and above, along with the Tax Exempt Receipt. Limited copies of this edition are available and we appeal for your assistance and support for this fund raising drive for a good cause and towards a heritage project.
